April 11, 2026 Saturday - For the last several days, Butter has been getting up even earlier than usual. Thankfully, she’s learned not to pee right away, but even still, it’s really early on the weekend for no reason. I took a not-so-little nap this afternoon on the couch and was woken up again by Butter barking at nothing outside.
April 10, 2026 Friday - I took the day off work again to see my God Daughter get married. It was so good to see all the family, many of whom I’ve not seen in a really long time. Her new husband is such a cool guy. He always has a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. It’s been such a great week to spend so much time with friends who are like family.
April 9, 2026 Thursday - I have a friend who moved out to Granbury last year. His daughter, one of my God Daughters, is getting married tomorrow. One of my other God Daughters is in town for the ceremony. I drove out to see them this evening at their new place. From my house, it’s quickest to go through Glen Rose. It was so good to see them all.
April 8, 2026 Wednesday - Some time during the night last night, there was a fire a few houses down the road. I don’t know the details, but somehow that turned into a gunfight with firefighters, police, and the homeowner. I woke up to a couple of texts from my sister and nephew’s wife. I slept through the sirens and gunshots. If the dogs reacted, I slept through that too.
April 7, 2026 Tuesday - I took the day off today to go see my friend. Her daughter is in town from Colorado, and I’ve not seen either of them in a very long time. I’ve known her daughter since she was five. She asked me to make her some Chocolate Pillows. I’ve not made these in a really, really long time. I must admit I ate a couple on the way to her house.
April 6, 2026 Monday - Sometimes I work from the couch. A lot of the times when I sit here, Pancake will come get on my right side. I think she’s just trying to get some distance between her and Butter. I love Pancake’s little curly mohawk. She seems to be getting a bit scruffier in her older age.
April 5, 2026 Sunday - Happy Easter. Today I met Riley and Ari for a late lunch. It was good to get to spend time with them. She showed me a bunch of their wedding photo proofs. After lunch, I got back home and went next door. It was fun to watch a bunch of my nieces and nephew’s kids do their Easter egg hunt. Today was a good day.
April 4, 2026 Saturday - It was a long week, and fortunately, my good friend invited me over today for some time on the patio smoking a couple of good cigars with a Jack and Coke nearby. To the people who invented cigars and all the people over time who have cultivated and improved them, I raise a glass to you. The best part of my day was sitting right here.
April 3, 2026 Friday - A while back, I took the pups out to Dairy Queen for burgers. I always order them two kid’s burgers with just meat, cheese, and buns. They always ask if I want the whole kid’s meal, and I always decline. When we got home, their burgers were each in their own bag along with a toy.
April 2, 2026 Thursday - Today, a friend I’ve not seen in a long while called me. She mentioned she had a hard day and could use a drink. We went to one of our favorite places and shared a big Attitude Adjustment with extra Tajín on the side. To be honest, having a big drink sounded like a really good idea to me too. Especially given it was great patio weather.
April 1, 2026 Wednesday - I went over to talk with my brother after my evening walk with the pups. I got there just in time to see the Artemis II launch. The first trip to the moon was shortly after I was born, and the last time was when I was three. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years since we were there. Makes me wonder what I won’t live to see 50 years from now.
